In many traditions, astrology and the zodiac are seen as maps of fate – tools for understanding personality traits, life cycles, and spiritual tendencies. From the Eckankar perspective, these systems do have significance, but they are only partial reflections of a deeper spiritual reality. They belong to the lower worlds-the realms of time, space, and duality, where karma and reincarnation govern Soul’s experience.
But above this framework lies a higher spiritual science known as the ECK-Vidya – the Divine knowledge that reveals Soul’s purpose, destiny, and path to freedom. When combined with spiritual awareness, astrology becomes less about destiny and more about conscious growth.
In Eckankar, the moment of birth is not random. Soul chooses its birth time, location, and even physical body in accordance with its karmic needs and spiritual goals. The astrological chart reflects this agreement. It acts like a karmic fingerprint, showing:

Eckankar acknowledges that planetary influences are real but not absolute. They are part of the psychic forces of the Astral Plane – meaning they can influence but not control Soul.
The twelve zodiac signs represent a cycle of energies that rotate with the sun and planets. This mirrors the Wheel of Eighty-Four – a symbolic term in Eckankar representing the many incarnations Soul undergoes in the lower worlds.

While astrology explains influences from the material and psychic planes, ECK-Vidya is the science of Soul’s direct relationship with the Divine. The ECK -Vidya discloses there is an abstract design behind all life. It shows one how he can govern the visible life by knowing what is going to take place in the future. It is the true science of prediction of life causes.
It involves the principles of the cycles of life – the incarnating of SOUL from birth to death and into life again. There are many small cycles working within one major cycle. The great cycles – each twelve symbolizes a cycle of evolution and experience. It takes in all the threes which are the inner cycles, the active principle of all life manifestations. Each great cycle of twelve is a new period starting over again developed only through the LIGHT of the Mahanta, the Living ECK master who is the embodiment and expression of the twelve.

Thus “the ECK Vidya is more inclusive than astrology. It uses more spiritual powers than the practitioners of prognosis ever dreamed could be possible. Yet, the ECK Vidya is only an aspect of Eckankar. Prophecy or foreseeing events before they happen, and deja-vu for seeing what has already happened are on a far greater panorama of esoteric background than any other system of prophesy which are given from the psychic plane levels.
ECK-Vidya teaches Soul:
Where astrology charts what is, the ECK-Vidya reveals what can be – based not on the stars, but on Soul’s capacity for inner awakening.
From time to time, Souls experience astrological returns or transits – Saturn returns, lunar nodes, eclipses, etc. These moments often trigger spiritual tests. While an astrologer may interpret this as a difficult “transit,” an ECKist sees it as a moment of grace – a time when karmic patterns rise to the surface for resolution.
