Why remember past lives?
We need to understand that the challenges we face today involve all sorts of past-life experiences. Once we gain awareness of these links to other lives, it’s possible to handle our challenges in a better way this time around.
We can end a chain of karma that has hung on for centuries. All debts must be repaid before one gain spiritual freedom.
One of the most fascinating teachings in Eckankar is that of the Hall of Memory – a sacred inner place where Soul can access Its own past-life records. The Hall of memory is located on the Causal Plane. Soul can access the records of its past lives by visiting this world during sleep, deep contemplation or consciously through Soul Travel under the auspices of the Dream Master, the Mahanta, the Living ECK Master.
Students of Eckankar are taken by the Mahanta to review the record of a past life that has a major significance on their life in this incarnation.
If you want to look at your past lives, the word to sing for a few minutes at bedtime is Mana (say MAH-nah). Then go to sleep as usual. This word attunes you to the Causal Plane, the region of past-life memories. Remembering past lives takes practice. But others do it and so can you.
– Past lives, dreams and Soul travel. Harold Klemp, pp 5 – 6.
Unlike the Akashic Records, which reflect collective memories often limited to the physical and Astral worlds, the Hall of Memory holds the complete spiritual history of Soul. It is a real place in the inner worlds, where seekers, under the guidance of the ECK Master, may:
The Hall of Memory gives Soul the opportunity to see rather than merely believe – allowing direct spiritual experience to replace blind faith.
The Lords of karma erase memories of an individual’s old mistakes which allow for a fresh start. This kindness sidesteps a dead end. It avoids the errors of someone taking up a new life and wasting it on past life problems like revenge for a lost love, property or social position.
Such memory loss is thus of benefit to Soul’s progress. Then, somewhere along the line, Divine Spirit sends a spiritual wake-up call through one means or another.
To awaken past life dreams, make a list of people and things you like or dislike. Also note if you feel a special attraction to some country, locale, or a time period in history. There is a reason for such interest. Now pay attention to your dreams.
Past Lives, Dreams and Soul Travel, Harold Klemp, p. 8.
An attraction, say to knights, medieval wars, and battles could be from faint memory of past lives in some period of history. A Civil War buff no doubt, saw military service during the tumultuous 1860s. That war left such a scar on the American nation that it reveals itself as a deeply felt interest in Civil War history.
A child with a passion for model airplanes might have flown as an aviator in World War 1 or 2, or even as a starship commander from Atlantis.
Someone with a feeling of ill will toward a certain church or country for no apparent reason may once have been a victim of religious or political fervor. An ailment without a known cause such as chronic neck pain, may be a tip off that a person was once hanged or beheaded.
Whenever strong loves or hates appear with no seeming cause, it means we are drawing the past into the present by agreement.
